DIY Fire Extinguisher Fun Make Over

This such an easy way to make a fun and attractive Fire Extinguisher for you home, camper or where ever you keep one!

Keep Calm and Cook On

* For safety reasons, please make sure to attach the instructions to the back of your extinguisher when you are finished.

I started by carefully removing the instructions so they could be put back on at the end.

Here is the black spray paint I used.

I taped up the top of the extinguisher and then spray painted it.

While the paint was drying I made a design with my Silhouette. You may just purchase a cute vinyl design at any craft store.

I used a Moroccan pattern.

I then inserted the saying to the center, but again you can skip these steps and purchase a vinyl design.

Here is my design after being cut out with my Silhouette.

I then took the black fire extinguisher and add the vinyl cut out.

This is when you will want to put the instructions back onto extinguisher.

I then used clear matte spray paint to spray the extinguisher.
I was so excited with my new extinguisher and how it will look great in my kitchen!

  1. I love this! Those things are just so darn ugly to have in your home! And you turned it into such a cute "accessory."

  2. That's exactly what I thought, but after a little stove fire gave me a scare, I thought I better keep one out.
    Thanks Sarah!

  4. Hi Marcie,

You did a great job with the fire extinguisher "make over" and it is very cute. And I'm so pleased you've emphasized reattaching the use instructions on the unit and that you have an extinguisher in your kitchen ... not everyone does. However, I do wonder if by changing the appearance of the unit from the "standard" that everyone immediately recognizes if it might delay - even if only by a split-second, locating the extinguisher in a fire situation. I do believe that would have been the case in our house fire that started in our dishwasher; in moments of great confusion and fear you go by instinct and if my hubby had to stop and think @ 2 a.m. about what the extinguisher looked like he may have lost valuable time in grabbing it and being able to clear a path for our safe exit. Truly, when the house is filled with smoke and you've lost power due to the fire, the red of the unit helps make it just a little bit visible. In fact I wish it would have a glow in the dark factor. For what it may be worth Just wanted to share based on my personal experience. Robin, happilyhomeafter.blogspot.com

    1. I thought of the same thing Robin, although they now are selling black (http://bit.ly/12nD6al) blue and silver extinguishers. I do agree that every second counts. Sorry about your fire, I bet that was the scariest thing ever. I have had tiny little flames pop up now and then and that freaks me out. Thanks for your comments Robin, I appreciate it!
