4th of July Cake

Here is my 4th of July cake. White cake on the bottom with top two layers being foam. I rolled the stars and swirls into the white fondant before putting it on the cake. Topped it off with a couple of dollar store decorations and some tiny flags. The flags are really tiny, you might have to look close for them.

2x4 Wood Flag

Making this flag started out as my project and then my husband kind of just took over. Ha ha!

It started by me asking him to cut out some wood. Each flag needed six pieces. Two 7" and four 3 1/2 " After cutting them out and stacking a flag together the two pieces that would be blue were a little taller than the stripes. He didn't really like this so he cut those two pieces so they were flush with what would be the stripes.

Cupcakes for Auction

We had the most fun auction at church the other night. This is what I made for it. Pistachio cupcakes with almond buttercream frosting. Just a few day's ago I posted pistachio cupcakes that I found at She Wears Many Hats. I followed her directions for the cupcakes but for the frosting I made an almond buttercream.
These were so simple but very moist. Take a white cake mix. Follow directions on box and then add a box of pistachio pudding. Fill cupcake papers half full and cook following box directions. Easy or what?
If you want more specific directions on the cake and frosting go to
 She Wears Many Hats.
Add your frosting and if you like I added a cute little candy to match the little cups you can purchase at Tom Kats Studio or Zurchers. The cake stand I made from a glass plate, candlestick and a little glass glue.

My Daughter Makes Me Smile!

Okay before you scroll down to look at the next picture you have to know the whole story. One day my daughter called and asked for my fondant recipe. Note she has never even tried fondant before. The next day I get a text and she tells me to go look at my email cause she sent me a picture of her cake and she said it was horrible. I said it can't be that horrible, as any mother would. She warned me that it was  bad and told me to call her cause she wanted to be on the phone with me when I looked at it. So I called her on the phone and proceeded to open her email. I was prepared to be the good mom and say all the right things, like "oh it's not that bad" or "maybe it would have been better if you would have done this...". When the picture popped up on the screen I couldn't say anything cause I was laughing until tears came. I couldn't say the things I had planned because she is not dumb and would know I was lying if I would have said "oh it's not that bad". Mind you, I was not laughing at her I was laughing with her. We both had a good laugh and decided to put this one on our failed list. But I know her and her determination. One day she will surprise us all with a beautiful Basketball cake! You can bet on that.

Father's Day Golf Party

Here is my golf cake. I used a black sugar sheet and my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the lettering.
Here are our two dad's. I think they were pretty happy with their party.

The little napkin rings were also made with my Silhouette. It is hard to see but that is a little golf cart on the ring.

Peanut Butter & Rolo Cookies

Make your favorite peanut butter cookie recipe or I like this one.

1/2  cup sugar plus additional sugar to roll cookies in.
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 stick room temperature butter
1 egg
1 cup  peanut butter
1 teaspoon pure vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cups flour

Mix sugars, peanut  butter,  butter and egg in large bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients.
Heat oven to 375ºF.
Shape dough into 1 - 1 1/4-inch balls.  Roll in sugar. Place about 3 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten in crisscross pattern with fork.

Bake 9 to 10 minutes or until light golden brown.
Just as soon as they come out of the oven press Rolo into each cookie. Yummy! Next time I make these I am going to put the Rolo inside of the cookie before I cook it!
