2x4 Wood Flag

Making this flag started out as my project and then my husband kind of just took over. Ha ha!

It started by me asking him to cut out some wood. Each flag needed six pieces. Two 7" and four 3 1/2 " After cutting them out and stacking a flag together the two pieces that would be blue were a little taller than the stripes. He didn't really like this so he cut those two pieces so they were flush with what would be the stripes.

Next thing I know he had them sanded and had begun painting my flags. I was busy so I let him finish. Notice that he didn't paint the parts that wouldn't show. You paint one 3 1/2" & one 7" red, one 3 1/2" & 7" white and then the other two 3 1/2  blue.

Well I decided I would at least paint on the star so I could say that I helped. I used my Silhouette to cut out a star but you could use any star stencil or do it freehand. After the star was on and they were all painted, we (do you like how I keep saying we) he sanded the edges of each piece.

My husband decided to nail the pieces together so that they wouldn't keep falling apart. I liked that idea. So he started with the top and with a nail gun nailed each piece one at a time. I would have just used a glue gun. But since this turned into my "husbands project" he used nails. Next he sprayed them  lightly with some clear coat and put them outside to dry so we wouldn't have to smell the clear coat.

I love how "our" flags turned out!
